The story of Strömstad

The story of Strömstad

What do you think of when you hear Strömstad?
Shrimp, salty baths or trade? Strömstad is so much more.

Strömstad is located in the part of Scandinavia that was once called Viken.
People lived here already during the older Stone Age. During the 16th century, the timber loading site Strömmen was built.
After the peace of Roskilde in 1658, when Bohuslän became Swedish, the need for a town arose.

What happened then.....?

On May 23, 1667, a decision was made to found a köping,
called the Stream. Strömmen became Sweden's first free independent purchase, with its own trading rights.
The time from the 1880s until 1920 can be described as Strömstad's heyday.
The reason was, among other things, the stone industry, a new herring period and shipping speed.
The tour goes through the historical eras that created the city of Strömstad with impact among important personalities throughout the ages.
